Founders of the Baha’i Faith
two main founders. They are known as the Ba and the Baha’ullah. Ba means “the Gate” in Arabic. He was born in 1819 in Shiraz, Persia. Baha’ullah translates as “the Glory of God.” He was born in Persia, in 1817, in Tehran.
The Ba
The Bab founded a new religious movement. This happened in 1844. He said, a great teacher will soon come. This teacher would usher in a new age of peace. The Bab was executed in 1850. His followers were persecuted as well.
Baha’ullah
He announced his mission in 1863. He claimed to be the teacher the Bab had foretold. He faced many hardships. Baha’ullah was both imprisoned and exiled. Yet his teachings spread everywhere.

Teachings and Practices in the Baha’i Faith
There are many aspects of teachings and practices that Baha’is follow. These help them to live a spiritual life. These practices include daily prayer, fasting, and community service.
Prayer of Baha’i Faith
Baha’is pray every day. They have specific prayers for each time. These prayers make them feel connected to God.
Fasting
After 19 days of fasting each year, Baha’is celebrate the Baha’i New Year, known as Nowruz. This happens in March. During that time, they abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. This helps them concentrate on their spiritual growth.
Community Service
Baha’is are taught to assist others. They participate in numerous community service projects. This makes the world around them a better place.
History of the Baha’i Faith

Early Days (1844-1863)
The Baha’i Faith was founded in 1844 by the Bab. He made ready the path for Baha’u’llah. The followers of the Bab were open to much persecution. Most of them died for their beliefs.

Exile and Imprisonment (1863–1892)
Baha’u’llah announced his calling in 1863. He was exiled from Persia. Baha’u’llah lived the rest of his life in exile. He was in many places. His teachings spread, however, far and wide.
Growth And Expansion (1892–1921)
Baha’u’llah died in 1892. His son, Abdu’l-Baha, was the leader of the Baha’i community. Abdu’l-Baha had visited many countries. He disseminated the Baha’i teachings. This was a period of rapid growth for the faith.
Modern Era (1921-present)
Shoghi Effendi succeeded Abdu’l-Baha. He played a crucial role in constructing the Baha’i administrative model. The Baha’is are now led by the Universal House of Justice. They are a group of nine elected.

Baha’is have a great number of holy places. These venues are significant because of their belief. Some of the locations are on Israel.

Bahji is in Israel. It contains the resting place of Baha’u’llah. Beyond Bahji Bahais come here to pray and meditate.
